Losergeek.org.CO, Jakarta – West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil claimed that fixing the transportation sector in Bandung Basin or Greater Bandung will require around Rp100 trillion budget.

“We need around Rp100 trillion to raise the number of Greater Bandung residents that use public transportation from 13% to 50%,” said Ridwan Kamil at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, August 3, 2023.

Ridwan Kamil explained that as of today, only 13% of the residents of Greater Bandung use public transportation, contributing to the 40% rate of traffic congestion in the area. “If we don’t do anything, by 2037, the whole city will be full of traffic congestion from the moment we step out of our houses,’ he said.

The governor explained that the government has prepared several solutions to resolve the traffic issue in Greater Bandung, namely railways services, Bus Rapid Transit, and Cable Car. “We will present one suggestion to President Jokowi at the end of next month,” Ridwan Kamil added.

Previously, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo held a limited meeting with Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi and West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, on Thursday, August 3, 2023. The meeting discussed the transportation development plan in Bandung Basin or Greater Bandung.

Minister Budi said Jokowi asked him to evaluate the transportation aspect of Bandung Basin, also known as the Bandung metropolitan area. “The President instructed us to evaluate the Bandung metropolitan area with a one-month time limit,” he said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, on Thursday, August 3, 2023.

We also plan to loan from Germany to resolve the issue in Semarang and Surabaya,” said Minister Budi.
